At the grand age of 83y my mother was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and on my 51st Birthday I waited in my car, unable to leave the hospital grounds whilst my mother had two grapefruit sized tumours removed and a full hysterectomy. She then endured the months of chemotherapy. I was already overweight but this sent me to a new high on the scales as I ate my way through the whole process. 

My mother made a full recovery but she lives in constant fear of cancer returning. Me being overweight also put me at risk. I sat down and thought what can I do. There it was in the magazine I was reading whilst shoving Cadbury mini eggs in my mouth, cycle across Costa Rica..perfect.  I paid the deposit there and then! I knew I needed to lose weight in order to do this so I  set about losing weight and I’m now 4 stone lighter ( some times it’s 3.5!) 

I’m doing this for all women that go through the horrible ordeal of ovarian cancer and all men or women suffering with breast cancer.  

Now let me make this clear I WILL struggle but I won’t quit! 

I am going to struggle as I haven’t even ridden my bike yet so I will be the one at the back but I really don’t care because whatever my struggle it won’t come close to anything my mother or anyone having chemotherapy has to endure. 

I will simply have a sore backside and stiff knees for a short while. My recovery is guaranteed. Something not everyone suffering with cancer can say.
