Story
Every child can succeed, if given the opportunity. Poverty breeds all manner of problems. Homelessness, drugs, crime, abuse, and broken families can all stifle progress and damage self-confidence. Community Links youth work programme is the most extensive in the UK, with more than 3,500 children and young people involved in a Community Links project each week, and this figure doubles during school holidays. Community Links' practical programmes involve: ‘at risk’ work with vulnerable children and young people, crime and homelessness prevention, education and employment, youth empowerment, disability and special needs, and youth advice and information.

On October 6th from 10-1pm, our team will have the opportunity to transform one of Commuinity Link's children and youth centres! The Asta Centre runs various programmes for children ranging from 0 to 18 years, including a nursery for under 5’s, an afterschool homework club for children between 5 and 11, a youth club for children between 11-18, and a daytime education programme for children who have been excluded from normal schools. The centre has a small outside space in which one entire wall has been prepared to have a diversity mural painted on the main wall. Our team will have the opportunity to paint kid-friendly artwork on the mural, which celebrates the diversity of the local community, in order to inspire the wide range of young people who come to the centre!
