Story
Iam taking part in the Injured Jockeys Fund “Fine Fillies Charity Race” being held at Kelso Racecourse on Sunday 27 May 2012, coinciding with Ladies Day.
A group of 12 lady riders, all associated with the British Horse Racing scene, will line up in the 1m 6f charity race to raise funds for The Injured Jockeys Fund and The House that Jack Built – set up to build a rehabilitation centre for injured jockeys in Malton.
It was Jack Berry MBE who had a vision to build a retirement home for injured jockeys and to provide physiotherapy, rehabilitation treatment, medical consultations and a fully equipped gym to help aid and speed patients’ recovery. Oaksey House in Lambourn became the culmination of this dream. However, such has been the demand at Oaksey House that a second similar facility in the North is now firmly on the agenda, with Malton in North Yorkshire being mapped out as a suitable location. Your generous donations would go towards this much needed and valued project.
This is a charity close to my heart as a number of my friends have been injured on the racetrack. They have all benefitted from The Injured Jockeys Fund. I have never ridden on a racetrack, let alone ride in a race, so this is a huge challenge for me! I am currently trying to get fit and lose a few pounds to enable me to do this - so your support would be much appreciated. Very kindly, Dianne Sayer is supplying me a horse for this race. I am looking to raise around £700, so any help through sponsorship would be gratefully received.
