Buscot Ward needs 2 brand new, incubators to help the doctors and nurses continue to deliver the best possible care for babies on Buscot.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I'm raising money for the amazing charity BIBS and feel very privileged to be part of "Team BIBS" for the 2018 RHM.

BIBS help to give sick and premature newborns at the neonatal unit (Buscot Ward) in the Royal Berkshire Hospital, in Reading, the best possible start in life. In 2018, the RHM Team are helping to raise money for two new incubators for the ward (which will cost £80k).

In 2010 my son Matthew was born and all seemed well initially. He was a healthy weight and we were moved to the maternity ward soon after he was born in the early hours. When the doctor came to see me in the afternoon to check Matthew I could tell that something wasn't quite right. The doctor seemed concerned and said that Matthew's breathing was fast. He quickly took him to the Buscot Ward and we were told that we'd be able to go and see him in a couple of hours. It was a daunting and scary time. Matthew had fluid on his lungs and spent his first night in the Buscot Ward under the incredible care of the doctors and nurses. The photo is of Matthew when he was about 18 hours old and was taken by the nurses on the Buscot Ward and given to me because I couldn't be with him that first night. He was well enough to be brought to me on the maternity ward the following day, which was fantastic, but I had to regularly visit Buscot so that Matthew could receive his IV antibiotics. Several days later, once his course of antibiotics was complete, Matthew was well enough so that we could go home. I can't thank the wonderful staff at the RBH and BIBS enough for supporting us through those difficult early days.

The charity is run by parents that have had a baby spend time on Buscot Ward, meaning they care deeply and know first-hand the difference they are making. Every penny raised can help save tiny lives and support families when they need it most.
