My beautiful mummy, Karen Wilson, lost her battle with cancer on 17th March 2020. Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer in June of 2019 and became very sick very quickly. She spent most of her time in hospital but was cared for by the amazing staff at the Marie Curie hospice in Belfast in her final weeks. Every single member of staff worked tirelessly to ensure she was as comfortable and happy as possible. They supported me too, allowing me to stay every day and through the night with my mum and ensuring I had everything I needed. This made such a difficult time so much easier for the whole family, I don’t know what we would have done without them and can never thank them enough.

Mum had a smile on her face throughout all her pain and was only ever concerned about everyone around her, especially me, my little sister and my dad. I miss her more than words can say but I am carrying her incredible strength and compassion towards others into running this marathon, to know that money is being raised in her honour. I have had to overcome a few things to get to this point but mum always said I could do anything if I put my mind to it and I know she will be cheering me on.

Marie Curie has impacted the lives of so many across the UK with amazing end of life care and supporting those after their loved one has gone but they rely entirely on our donations to continue their service.
