London Marathon 2022 · 2 October 2022 ·
I am running my 10th marathon at the London Marathon. This has been a race I’ve wanted to run for quite some time and now I’m getting to run in support of a great nonprofit, Sense.
As a child my mother went back to school for her degree and certification as an ASL interpreter, which meant plenty of practice sessions with me! I fondly remember running around during camping weekends, going to NJ Black Deaf Advocates meetings, attending signed Shakespeare in the park, and being immersed in the deaf and hard of hearing community. I distinctly remember being in my mothers deaf blind workshop one weekend, and her professor letting me participate in the immersive experience of putting on noise cancelling ear coverings and an eye covering. It was such a humbling day that I still remember it nearly 30 years later. When the opportunity presented to raise money for a community I know and love, and to run one of the most renowned races in the world, I knew it was perfect.
Sense is a national Charity that supports people who are deafblind and those with complex disabilities, to be understood, connected and valued. They are there for every person who faces communication barriers in a world that relies on being able to see and hear well to be connected. Together we can unlock barriers to communication so no one is isolated, left out or unable to fulfil their potential.
Every donation of any amount helps me reach my goal! Thank you in advance.
