Story
Shortly after Maeve’s first birthday she was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma (a rare childhood eye cancer). As any parent can imagine, this is the worst news you could ever receive. Within 16 days of diagnosis Maeve had an MRI, lumbar puncture and bone marrow samples taken and her first round of intra arterial chemotherapy.
The NHS and GOSH were absolutely amazing at treating Maeve so quickly. She has had three rounds of intra arterial chemotherapy so far and luckily for us the treatment is working amazingly!
We are certainly on the right track with Maeve but we are not quite out of the woods just yet, but we have full confidence in the NHS and GOSH if any further treatment is needed.
I am running the half marathon to raise money for such an amazing hospital that helps so many children every day in the UK. The money raised is to go towards the new cancer centre at GOSH so it means a lot to us as a family. I am also running to raise awareness for Retinoblastoma. A rare childhood eye cancer that affects around 50 children each year in the UK.
The new cancer centre will help treat children as well as fund research to improve treatment for the future. We do not believe Maeve has any vision in her right eye due to her chemotherapy treatment. If the research could help towards a kinder treatment for Retinoblastoma it could save future children’s vision which would be amazing.
I would really appreciate any donations towards such an amazing cause and an amazing hospital that we are so lucky to have here in the UK.
Thank you,
Jess xxx
