Story
We have both been long time supporters of HospiceCare North Northumberland, and know how much the work they do benefits the local community. We have also been in the position to understand first hand the massive support that home care gives to the terminally ill and their family and friends.
It is for this reason that we have decided to put ourselves through the ordeal of attempting the Lyke Wake Walk - a 40 mile slog from Osmotherley to Ravenscar in 24 hours. No mean feat at any time, but our training has been beset by challenges - unscheduled urgent trips away and Covid have limited our long walks.
We will be setting off at the crack of dawn with lots of enthusiasm, a bag full of food, and unknown capability. We will do our best though, and with the help of Martin and Simon (and Ruby and Alfie) in our support vehicle, hopefully we will succeed!
HospiceCare delivers person-centered Hospice at Home service across North Northumberland, offering practical and emotional care and support to adults aged 18 years and over, who are living with a terminal illness, requiring palliative input. Care is provided within a person’s home by our specially trained nursing team & healthcare assistants 365 days. Each year HospiceCare needs to raise over £850,000 and receive just 5% from the NHS - the rest we have to find from community fundraising, donations, and legacies.
