London Landmarks Half Marathon 2023 · 2 April 2023 ·
In November 2020 my wonderful friend Sarah was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. It made no sense. She was the fittest, healthiest, strongest person, who took good care of herself and never took a day off sick. How could this happen?
Sarah endured months of treatment; chemotherapy, followed by surgery and then radiotherapy. She stayed positive and strong and fought back with everything she had. In September 2021, she finally finished treatment and we all looked forward to a new year with this dreadful time put behind us.
But this was not to be. Devastatingly, the cancer returned in early 2022 and following a terminal diagnosis in April, Sarah lost her battle less than four weeks later on May 22nd.
I'm running this marathon for my friend. My friend that always supported and encouraged me and my friend that would, without a doubt, have done the same for me.
Sarah, my friend for life, I love you and I miss you.
2023 is Barts Health Trusts 900th anniversary. To recognise this impressive milestone they have launched one of their most important appeals to date, which is to raise funds to build a new dedicated Breast Cancer Centre at St Bartholomews Hospital.
This new centre will bring together surgical services across the five Barts Health hospitals under one roof. Surgery is an important part of the patient journey, and over 80% of breast cancer patients have surgery as part of their treatment. This state-of-the-art facility will bring together surgery and post-surgery care in one place, improving every stage of the patient experience.
Help us to help them help others that are fighting this dreadful disease by giving whatever you can to this wonderful cause.
