Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I am running my first ever marathon next year London 2018, in support of Diabetes UK.
I am supporting this charity as in the last 18 months my wife Vicki has changed her life through the support from Diabetes UK, she has been type 1 diabetic since the age of 7, and had been on 4 injections a day to control her sugar levels, this however was never successful she would have sugar level spikes as high as 18 and lows of 2, her HBA1C (average levels) would be 14, she was constantly battling everyday against these sugar levels in result that would drastically make her day to day life impossible. But after meeting and old school friend for a coffee who is type 1 diabetic, she was told about an Animas Vibe insulin pump, and was told to speak to her nurse, she did and was referred to Countess of Chester Hospital. There after consultations with a new nurse she secured funding for the insulin pump from the NHS. Since that day in May 2016 Vicki has completely changed her life, she is now not suffering from lows and spikes in her blood sugar, and her HBA1C is at a level of 6. This has given her a new lease of life, she has been able to become more active and has completed her first 5K race, several Parkruns, and recently completed a Gung-Ho obstacle course. This may seem like a small achievement for a normal person, but for Vicki this has been a long and very difficult journey.
The current funding cost for a insulin pump is £5,000 per patient, I know I can't raise that total on my own, but my £1850 I am aiming to raise can pay towards one, having seen the effects these insulin pumps can have on peoples life is my motivation. And none of this would be possible without the research and hard work from Diabetes UK.
