Adapting to Change – Prostate Cancer Survivor
2020 is a year to remember for everyone, but as a Change Management Specialist, I never expected to have to adapt to a silent killer disease with little warning.
At the age of 52 and a routine visit to my GP 12 months ago, kickstarted a year of extreme learning. I had no waterwork symptoms, so never expected to learn; that following a random blood test, that I would be required to have a PSA blood test, MRI, undergo a biopsy, be informed that I had Cancer and would undergo radical surgery all within a period of 9 months!
As a business owner who enjoys learning every day and sharing value added, world class lean best practices for growth, I feel a duty to share my latest knowledge and raise awareness of this nasty and often silent Cancer that kills so many men.
This August, I will be raising funds for Prostate Cancer UK and also Age UK Norwich where I will be joining the local football legend Jeremy Goss for a 100 mile cycle challenge.
Please get in touch if you are willing to join me or help with the fundraising needed for research to save lives.
Please also visit https://prostatecanceruk.org/about-us to learn more about Prostate Cancer for men. A one in eight chance is significant so do not ignore and risk your life, as it could be too late for treatment.
Prostate Cancer UK History
The Prostate Cancer Charity was founded in 1996 by Professor
Jonathan Waxman to address the 'Outrageous and arbitrary surgical
treatment of men'.
We were the first national organisation for prostate cancer in the UK. Our aim was to improve the care and welfare of those affected by prostate cancer, increase investment in research, and raise public and political awareness of a long-neglected disease.
We started small: five members of staff and with our helpline housed in a small room in Hammersmith hospital. It ran one day a week.
We merged with Prostate Action in 2012 and completely rebranded to form Prostate Cancer UK. In the last 20 years, we’ve invested over £37 million into ground breaking research, and continue to provide award-winning support for men.
We have grown in size, strength and influence but our ambition is the same: to put men at the heart of everything we do.
