Story
Since January last year, my Uncle Tony has been battling leukaemia. After numerous rounds of chemotherapy he has just had the stem cell transplant that can hopefully save and transform his life. Both Basingstoke and Southampton General have been incredible. Ward C6 at Southampton are amazing.
It is really challenging for the patients and their families. Southampton ward C6 do it allow visitors, to keep the patients safe from infections, so it means the patients can be in hospital for weeks at a time with just their own thoughts for company. This does have a huge impact on patient’s mental health.
My school, South Craven, as well as Waverley Preparatory School, where my Auntie and Uncle both work, place a huge emphasis on wellbeing. Music and the spoken word do wonders for someone’s mental health. Our aim is to be able to raise enough funds to buy each room a digital radio, so even in those dark times you don’t feel so alone.
My Auntie Jane is running in the Wokingham half marathon in a few days and I’m running the mini mile (being under 18 means they won’t let me do the half marathon unfortunately)
We want to show Uncle Tony that we adore him, we miss him, and we all know how brave he is being throughout this. We also want to raise money for ward C6 at Southampton General Hospital.
