Change Into Action is an Alternative Giving Scheme being piloted across Birmingham, supporting specialist Charities and Street Teams working to change the circumstances of rough sleepers in the city.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Many of us, including myself, take many things that we have in life for granted and underappreciate how fortunate we are. By this I not only mean the flashy clothes and technology many of us own but the simple things that every person deserves to have such as food, shelter, clothing etc. Many of us undervalue our situation and are guilty of expecting these things to be provided in life.

Walk through the city centre and you will lose count of the amount of rough sleepers and homeless people on Birmingham's streets. These people, many through no fault of their own, have lost everything in life and have little hope of a better life. As a person who takes pride in my city I find it embarrassing that the number of people sleeping rough in Birmingham over the last 3 years has risen 157% to a total 4 times the national average!

However the campaign 'Change Into Action' has been created which combines Birmingham City Council, St Basils, Crisis, SIFA Fireside, West Midlands Combined Authority, Mayor of West Midlands, WM Housing Group, Accenture, BVSC, Street Intervention Team and Midland Heart in hope of eradicating homelessness and rough sleeping in our city. They offer essentials such as food and clothes, provide shelter, offer education, help people move back into society with employment and accommodation but most importantly offer people the OPPERTUNITY that they never thought they'd get to begin a new life.

£2 provides a hot meal, £5 provides a travel card to attend appointments with services, £10 provides kitchen items for accommodation to enable self catering, £50 provides new clothes that fit and provide their owner with pride and confidence whilst £500 provides a deposit for permanent housing in a private flat.

Putting that into perspective over Christmas that drink you buy at the bar would provide a hot meal for someone. That taxi home would provide the ability for someone to self cater for months ahead. That 3 course restaurant meal  would provide a new wardrobe of clothes for someone.

In attempt to raise money (via sponsorship) for this great cause I shall be running 5 kilometres every day of January, in the end totalling 155 kilometres on the 31st of January which shall be tracked via the Nike run app which displays times, distances and the route that I ran that particular day.

Any donations of sponsor towards my event would be much appreciated by myself and 'Change Into Action' who will put them to much needed use. If you leave your name when donating I can update you with the progress of my event beginning January 1st all the way through to 31st via screenshots of my Nike run app data. The goal will be £400 but hopefully we can smash that and raise as much as possible!

Thanks for your time spent visiting my page once again
