Helping Evie, aged 11, realise her dream of completing her first marathon in her wheelchair.

Story

You read it right -  the Nortons are doing a marathon!  We are part of a team called 'The Big Push'. Most of you will know that neither of us are marathon runners (in fact far from it!) but when Evie, Philippa's goddaughter said she wanted to do a marathon and raise funds for Action for A-T we had to get involved.

Evie is Philippa's gorgeous, funny, smart and determined goddaughter who at 11 years old now has to be in a wheelchair. When Evie was 4 years old she was diagnosed with Ataxia Talengiectasia - or A-T.

This is a cruel childhood condition that affects the body in many different ways. Children are born appearing to be fully healthy but over time lose their ability to function their muscles and like Evie, find themselves wheelchair bound at a very early age.  Children with A-T are more susceptible to common conditions like cancer, compromised immune system and lung conditions. Many children with A-T will die in their early 20's.

So when Evie said she wanted to do a marathon we knew if there was ever a reason this was it. A team of 32 of us are going to push Evie around Brighton Marathon in a specially adapted wheelchair. We are not aiming for a record time just to get round the course and raise awareness and vital funds for research in to A-T. Evie is also going to rig up with some music for the chair so we will try and have some fun along the way too. (Any good running tune suggestions please share!).

The cure for A-T is currently unknown - and we all know that research is vital in medical advancements. So any donation - big or small - would be amazing and will go directly towards funding some extraordinary research programs.

If you can't donate please take some time to go to the actionforAT.org website and find out more. Maybe you could do a fundraiser of your own for Action for A-T - there are so many things to get involved in that you will find on the website.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving - they'll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity. So it's the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
