A Week of Canal Activities · 6 August 2020

COVID 19 means we have been unable to operate this year. No trips = no donations = no income. We still have to pay mooring fees, insurance, rent etc. 1,000s of people will benefit from a trip with us when it is safe. Help us survive to help them!

Story

I started volunteering as boat crew in Feb 2020 but due to Covid 19 all boat trips were cancelled. Safe Anchor Trust is an award winning registered charity unique in the North of England, providing trips on the waterways for many groups inc those with disabilities and mobility problems. The Trust runs four passenger boats, two of which have full wheelchair accessibility, 'Safe Anchor Lady' and 'E Austen Johnson.' They operate completely through unpaid volunteers, make no charge for the trips they run and survive entirely on donations with every penny they receive going towards the running and maintenance costs of their boats.
This year has been really tough for Safe Anchor so far. They’ve been unable to run any trips and so donations are massively down yet they still have to pay rent, insurance, mooring fees (which were subject to an unannounced 20% increase in March) and other overheads.
Your donation will be a massive help to the charity and help to ensure it's future into 2021.
