It was a comment from a girl at my running club that led to the discovery that the mole on the back of my calf was actually a potentially life threatening melanoma!! Fortunately it was early stages and after a couple of procedures to remove it I am now clear. It could have been a very different story... 

It made me realise how ignorant I was about how to check and what to look for. It also made me realise how important it is to put on sun cream even in Ireland!!! 

I am lucky enough to have my own place in the London Marathon but if I can use that to raise awareness, then it will make my run more meaningful. 

The British Skin Foundation is a small charity dedicated to research into fighting skin disease and cancer. Their website has really useful information about how to check your skin for cancer.
