Story
Dear friends and family,
I have decided to support CARE International's "Walk In Her Shoes" challenge this year to raise money and help make a difference for women in developing countries through easily accessible clean water, food and firewood. I have witnessed the devastating poverty and hard physical conditions women have to endure every day to survive and provide for their families during my stay in India, therefore this initiative from CARE seems like the right cause to support.
I will walk 10,000 steps (= approxitately 8km/5miles) every day for one week from 12 - 18 March 2012 to raise money for the "Walk In Her Shoes" initiative - that's the equivalent of what millions of women have to walk every day to gather basic necessities, often in very dangerous situations. They carry an average load of 20kg simply to survive (that's a full Easyjet luggage allowace!). It also leaves little time for them to attend school, access health services or earn money to support their families.
Watch CARE's "Walk In Her Shoes" video.
If my walking can make a difference for one woman or girl it will have been worth it. Please support me in this little project, it's a small step (or 70,000 steps) for a big cause - every Euro/GBP counts, even the smallest sum makes a difference!
Thank you,
Julia
