Story
As a result of lockdowns and being robbed of the ability to do any other kind of sport than running, I've decided to attempt my first ultra-marathon. The run is part of an event called the London-2-Brighton Challenge - a 100km distance - and I'm running half of it.
My body feels like it deserves a donation just for having been put through running 30-60 km every week since January, but there are arguably better causes that, and donating to Dyscover is one of them.
Dyscover is a charity that supports people with aphasia, which is a communication disability most commonly caused through stroke, but also brain tumors and dementia. It impairs the ability to speak, read, write or understand what's being said. In the UK, some 350,000 people are thought to be living with it currently.
There are a few personal reasons for picking this specific charity, but what I find most exciting is what the donations will support. Like many other charities (and companies!), Dyscover had to figure out how to keep doing what they do during COVID, and so embraced virtual meetings and support sessions. Well, this mode of communicating turned out to be so successful for them that they are now working on making it a permanent part of the program, rather than just a temporary fix, but for this they need some IT-related help, and IT-related help doesn't come for free these days.
You donation will go a long way in helping them out, and less importantly my body will feel like the pain was worth it for more than just proving to myself I could do this.
