BUPA Great Manchester Run 2008 · 18 May 2008 ·

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

Story

Hi there,

Thanks for visiting my sponsorship page.

I'm hoping to raise at least £500.00 this year to help the NACC - National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease.  I was diagnosed with Crohn's in August 2007 so I'd like to raise as much as I can to help the NACC in their  activities.

Did you know?

About 1 in 400 people suffer with either Crohn's or Colitis.

In 2007, up to 18,000 people in the UK will have developed either Crohn's or Colitis, Inflammatory Bowel Diseases that occur out of the blue and last a lifetime.

So, please, please sponsor me as much as you can. I would really appreciate your help.

Many thanks in advance for your kind generosity!

NACC Research Fund

More than 100 projects have been funded by NACC members since the Research Fund was started in 1984. The research has been mainly into the causes and treatments for Inflammatory Bowel Disease, but in recent years several Social and Psychological projects have been funded. The funds for research have come almost entirely from NACC members own fund-raising and donations, but support from Charitable Trusts and Companies is growing. NACC aim is to increase the funds they make available to £500,000 per year by the end of 2007.

NACC's policy has been to fund projects at hospitals and universities throughout the United Kingdom, not just at one centre. Awards are made using peer-review and the projects funded have covered a wide variety of possible causes, including genetics, viruses and bacteria, the immune system and the environment. No single line of research seems to offer a complete understanding of the disease and NACC aims to help research progress in all areas. NACC has been awarded a Certificate of Best Practice in peer-review of research applications by the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC).

Note: Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The National Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease - NACC will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
