Story

I'm going to be taking on the world's most famous 26.2 miles on Sunday 2 October 2022 to raise awareness & money for The National Brain Appeal.

On 8th July 2008, I sadly lost my Mum, Jan Dargan, after an 28 month battle with a Glioblastoma multiforme. GBM is an aggressive type of cancer that can occur in the brain or spinal chord and is the most common form of malignant brain tumour – accounting for 47.7% - with a devastating survival time of just 12-18 months. I feel extremely lucky to have had those months with my mum. I hope that experience has made me kinder, more empathetic and more driven to achieve my goals. Which is what brings me here, somehow running a marathon in her memory has become my new goal.

We miss her every single day - she was truly one of the kindest and most caring people I ever knew. To have had her as my Mum was the greatest gift I could ever receive, even if it was only for the first 23 years of my life.

I am still shocked that only 1% of the annual research budget for cancer is devoted to brain tumour research.

The National Brain Appeal have had a significant impact on brain cancer care over the last 10 years and more.

The National Brain Appeal raises money to help those with neurological conditions. To improve the outcome and quality of life for the one in six people affected by a neurological condition.

Just a few of these include: stroke, Parkinson’s disease, brain cancer, epilepsy, brain injury, dementia, prion disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis and a host of neuromuscular conditions.
