Christian Aid Week 2021
Campaign by Christian Aid (RCN 1105851, SC039150)
Drought drives people to the brink. Storms tear families apart. Raging waters show no mercy. In Kenya the climate crisis has made weather more extreme, whether long drought or relentless rainstorms. Join us this Christian Aid Week (10th -16th) May!

Story

I am raising money to help people like Rose as I know from my own experience what it is like to worry about basic essentials such as a  water supply. When I was in my 20s, I taught in Nigeria. The school where I worked had no running water and so going to the nearby well with my bucket became an almost daily occurrence.  Even in 1980 it was clear that the climate was changing and the rains were becoming less reliable, so towards of the dry season the well almost dried up.  I can still remember the joy and relief I felt when the first rains arrived and rushing out to place my buckets to catch the water dripping off the roof. That is why I empathise with Rose.

Her story is heart-breaking. The climate crisis is leaving people like her hungry and homeless. Without a reliable source of water Rose is struggling to survive.  In recent years the drought has been so bad that it has caused a hunger crisis. Rivers run dry and crops wither and die. "I often feel hungry," Rose says. "Because of climate change, I worry a lot about food. I pray to God that the rainfall will become normal like it used to be".

The coronavirus pandemic has only made this lack of water more critical for Rose. Without water for handwashing, it is a struggle to stay safe from the virus. Please support my fundraising and help to provide reliable water source, for people like Rose. Your gift will help support Christian Aid's vital work with some of the poorest communities in the world. Thank you!
