Story
I'm taking part in the 20 for 20 challenge for Heartburn Cancer UK.
20 charities for lesser known cancers have joined HCUK to form the 20 for 20 challenge as cancer doesn't stop for Covid.
Heartburn Cancer UK are a small charity aiming to raise awareness of the link between suffering with persistent heartburn and having oesophageal cancer or a pre-cancerous condition called Barretts oesophagus. They support sufferers and their loved ones and provide information to the general public and the medical profession.
Around 8000 people die in the UK every year from oesophageal cancer.
That's 22 every day!
With the right information 59% of oesophageal cancer cases are preventable compared to 38% of other cancers. Raising public awareness of the dangers of persistent heartburn and urging people to seek medical advice from their GP is key. Improving earlier diagnosis really will help save lives and improve outcomes.
