Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I've been a member of the Junior League of London for the last 2 years and currently volunteer on the committee for the Little Black Dress Initiative.

The Junior League is an international league of women with a mission to promote volunteer service, develop the potential of women and improving the community.  The Junior League of London has been serving the London community for nearly 30 years now, and our 400 members contribute over 20,000 volunteer hours annually to help Londoners at an economic disadvantage.

Our work focuses on supporting the 30% of fellow Londoners who live below the poverty line.  We work with about 20 partner organisations in town to: provide gifts and a holiday meal to over 1,000 people each Christmas, host soup kitchens, run an after school tutoring program, provide back to school packs for children who can't afford school supplies, offer reading workshops and a home library of books for families in one of the poorest areas in London, provide support to at-risk youth trying to make a better life for themselves and much more!

This year we are holding the 5th annual Little Black Dress Initiative - a week long, social media driven fundraising campaign to raise awareness about poverty and its effects on women in society.  I will be wearing the same black dress from March 12-16, 2018 and then donate my dress to Smartworks, a charity that helps women on low incomes prepare for job interviews.

It may not be a marathon, and I have been known to wear a black dress a time or two... or ten.  But I'm hopeful you'll agree this is a creative way to raise awareness about this issue and raise funds to support our projects this year!  If you would like to find out more about The Junior League of London and the work that we do, please visit www.jll.org.uk.

I am grateful for any and all support.  BP will match all donations so anything you give will count double!  Thanks for supporting this very worthwhile cause.
