On the 26th of June 2018 I received a call from Sophie's nursery asking me to come quickly as Sophie had collapsed and an ambulance was on its way. I arrived at the same time as the paramedics, by which time Sophie was conscious and crying. I had no idea what the next 3.5 weeks would bring to Sophie and our young family. 

Over these few weeks Sophie was discharged from hospital 3 time, readmitted 3 times, transferred between 4 hospitals, had approximately 8 heart attacks, had 6 ambulance trips, was diagnosed with diffuse coronary artery disease (virtually unheard of in a 3 yo) with an unknown underlying cause, spent 2.5 weeks in a drug induced coma,, spent 1.5 weeks on an ECMO circuit in said coma, had 2 angiographs, placed on the urgent heart transplant list, had a pacemaker fitted,  had angioplasty, had a haemorrhagic stroke, had a drain installed, was declared brain dead, had her life support turned off and her kidneys removed to donate to another needy patient. During all this time, she was surrounded by loving family and friends and cared for by some of the most amazing professionals I've ever witnessed in a workplace.

I will be running the London Landmarks Half Marathon in her memory on March 24 2019 to raise funds for Great Ormond St Hospital. I aim to raise at least £6000 as a way of saying 'thanks' and to assist the many other children and families in similar situations.

I'd like to say a special thanks to my dear friend Kate who helped raise over £500 towards my goal by running the London Winter run in February.
