Story
These uncertain times remind us of the critical work that must continue to be done to strengthen our communities. At Pace Center for Girls we are committed to minimizing the impact of this pandemic on our girls and their families, many of whom were already vulnerable before this challenge. During this crisis, our girls are highly vulnerable to dropping out of school and getting in trouble with the juvenile system. Therefore, we have quickly launched virtual counseling and an online academic platform so our girls can stay connected and receive the love and support they need and deserve. In launching this virtual support system, we found that 45% of our girls lacked the technology resources to become connected and supported. We have been working to provide them laptops, phones, and internet support to meet these needs. Our girls depend on Pace to provide stability in their lives.
If you know me personally, you know that Cody and I lost our daughter, Debbie on Feb. 14, 2018 from a tragic car accident. Debbie lived her life in a big way while dealing with anger issues, dropped out of school and later received her GED, trauma from a past assault and mental health issues. I looked at Pace after she dropped out to help her get back on track, receive counseling, love and care. She was head strong and wanted to get her diploma on her own, which she did and we were delighted for her and her accomplishment.
I'm now at Pace to raise funds and awareness in honor of Debbie and hope you will see that the Pace program provides education and wrap around services to young women changing their future and giving them hope.
Thank you for your continued commitment to Pace and, most importantly, our girls!
