Story

I'm taking part in the 20 for 20 Challenge for Sarcoma UK.20 charities for lesser known cancers have joined Sarcoma UK to form the 20 for 20 challenge as cancer doesn't stop for Covid.

Sarcoma is a cancer of the bone and soft tissue. It is one of the hardest to diagnose, and difficult to treat. We can help change this. By donating to my page, you will fund vital research projects looking for better treatments. Your donation will also raise awareness of the symptoms of sarcoma to help patients get an early diagnosis, and ensure everyone has access to specialist advice.

I have chosen to support Sarcoma UK, as during the Covid-19 pandemic, more and more people have called Sarcoma UK's Support Line for help and advice. The Support Line team had to double their capacity, answering more calls, texts and emails than ever before. More than ever, they need your support to make sure everyone who needs advice can get it at this time.

In September 2015 my husband was diagnosed with a rare type of bone cancer: Chondrosarcoma. He underwent surgery to not only remove the cancer tissues but he had to have Massive Proximal Tibia Replacement meaning he lost the bone from above his knee to ankle and it was replaced with an internal prosthetic

Unfortunately, this cutting edge technology has not worked as well as we hoped which has left my husband not able to do the things he loves like cycling, running and playing football. It has also dislocated twice in the last 3 years resulting in emergency surgery and the constant fear that it will dislocate again.

My husband made the brave decision to opt for an amputation in May 2019 as this will give him back his freedom to climb mountains, cycle to work and play his favorite sport, Football.

He has been learning to walk again on his prosthetic and everyday gets stronger by walking over 7,000 steps a day.

Any donation that you could make to support this charity and help others like my husband be diagnosed early enough that they don't have to lost a limb is appreciated. Thank you for your support.
