A leap for Crohn's and Colitis · 22 August 2020

We’re the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s and Colitis. Right now, over 500,000 people in the UK are living with a lifelong disease that many people have never heard of. We’re working to improve diagnosis and treatment; to fund research and to raise awareness.

***UPDATE: 17/5/2021: Hi Guys! I know it's been quite a while since my last update! But as Britain is finally slowly coming out of lockdown...the skydiving company have resumed their jumps and given that my health took a massive blow this winter/spring I needed to take time to heal, so we pushed our original 9th of May date back to our NEW OFFICAL DATE: SUNDAY THE 4TH OF JULY 2021! That way we can give a nod to my American heritage and celebrate in a big way from 10,000 feet! **We are SOOO CLOSE to our 1K goal, can you help us make it happen! As of today, 17th of May...we are only £135 away!

If you would like to support our efforts towards reaching our financial goal of raising a thousand pounds for Crohn's and Colitis UK that would be fantastic as well! Thank you all4 following our journey. for your patience whilst our country was in lockdown and while we need to spend time focusing on my health first! You all are the best!

To give a little background....I have decided to do this skydive as someone who suffers from Crohn’s Disease/IBD and I strongly believe it is immensely important to raise awareness for IBD and allow others to gain a glimpse into what it’s really like. Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis are both what's called Inflammatory Bowel Diseases or IBDs; they affect various parts and functions of the digestive system and they are very unpredictable and can vary widely in severity and impact from person to person.

Personally, along with Gastroparesis, a completely separate digestive disorder I have, I battle  severe Crohn's Disease and it has a huge impact on not just my quality of life, but almost every single facet of my life. Crohn's affects the entirety of the digestive system, from your mouth to your anus and also affects many other parts of the body like your joints, eye sight, immune system, nutrition, energy, and so many other areas of the body that are called extra intestinal manifestations.

At present, there is no cure for Crohn's and Colitis, and current statistics show that every 1 in 650 people in the UK suffer from IBD, so it is so crucial to fight back and support our amazing charities that are doing such fantastic things in the battle against IBD.

I am doing this challenge in solidarity with my husband, as we both feel it is crucial to demonstrate how Crohn’s and Colitis does not just touch those with the conditions, IBD does not discriminate, it has a massive impact on our loved ones as well. This challenge is something COMPLETELY outside of my comfort zone...I AM AFRAID OF HEIGHTS lol, but after being encouraged by a good friend who has completed the task for her charity, I feel it’s really important to push myself to do things I never would have done before I became ill as well.

That said, I am also doing this event to raise vital funds for the charity Crohn’s and Colitis UK. They are the UK’s leading charity for Crohn’s Disease and Ulcerative Colitis and any funds raised will be put towards their mission which is “To work with all those affected by these conditions to achieve a better quality of life, improve services, and ultimately find a cure. We want to see a world in which people’s lives are not limited by Crohn’s and Colitis.”

Any amount gifted, large or small is extraordinarily helpful, as it will be put towards supporting IBD warriors in their daily lives and struggles, support research aimed at finding new and more effective/tolerable treatments and medications, and hopefully one day lead to a cure for Crohn’s and Colitis. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and any support for my cause means more than I can put into words.

I will also post links to the CCUK website and the Skydiving page for your reference!
