Story

I suffer with ulcerative colitis and so this is a cause thats very important to me.

Last winter I started jogging in a bid to improve my fitness. I did one of those Couch to 5k apps and on my first day I couldn't even manage to jog 30 seconds! I kept at it and did my first 10k in York in August. Just a couple of weeks later, a colitis flare up started and really stopped me in my tracks, with exercise put on the back burner for 3 months!

Jay and his work mates ran the Royal Parks Half Marathon last October and really inspired me to do a similar event, so I signed up for the Silverstone Half Marathon in secret, in case I wasn't able to do it.

Luckily extra medication got the flare up under control in time for me to go on holiday in November, and whilst away I pulled my trainers back on and started jogging again with my sister.

This was the push I needed to get back into exercise and in December did the Santas on the Run event in Oxford.

January brought new years resolutions of running the half marathon and also 500km in total for the year. After training for about 6 weeks I hit 13 miles of constant and steady running. Safe in the knowledge that I didn't die, I have decided to do some other events, raising money for Crohn's and Colitis UK along the way.

Events I am planning to do are:

- Silverstone Half Marathon

- Milton Keynes Half Marathon

- Crohn's and Colitis York Walk

- York 10k

- Great North Run

- possibly Blenheim Half Marathon

So, any support you could give me is greatly received, be it encouragement to go out on a rainy, cold dinnertime run when all I want to do is watch Neighbours, or if you are able to spare a few quid to help give other people like me advice, support and help when they really need it.

I appreciate all the changes that being a runner has brought, from the camaraderie and friendship, to the weight loss and smaller clothes as well as the ability to run for a bus or a train when late! Hopefully by running these events and with your help, I can also help other crohn's and colitis sufferers.

Thank you,

Kayleigh :)
