Team: Remembering Izzie Tyler

In memory of Izzie Tyler
We are Great Ormond Street Hospital Charity. We stop at nothing to help give seriously ill children childhoods that are fuller, funner and longer. Because we believe no childhood should be lost to illness.

Story

Our daughter, Izzie, was diagnosed with a Germ Cell Tumour in May 2018, She was 7 years old. After being told she needed chemo, she would lose her hair & she needed a major operation, she was given a 94% chance of being cured, we had something to fight for. We spent so much time in hospital, scans, small ops, chemo, high temps, major op, but all for that good outcome!!! Unfortunately the tumour had other ideas & started growing back. Going into a different type of chemo meant longer in hospital & higher doses, Izzie was struggling. The Nurses & play therapists were incredible, getting Izzie & me through some dark & tough days & nights. Devastatingly this did not work, high dose chemo was her only option now which meant 6 wks in hospital. This was one of her lowest times & the nurses went over & beyond to bring light into Izzie’s darkest moments. May 2019 we were told High Dose hadn’t worked... she was in & out of hospital, really poorly all summer. We managed to get a break from her sickness in Oct 2019 allowing us to fly to Canada & showing her the one place she was so desperate to see, Niagra Falls. The medication got her through, but unfortunately once home she was back in hospital. The nurses knew Izzie so well by now & as usual were amazing with her. Izzie sadly passed away with us by her side in November 2019, she was 9 years old. We all feel her loss everyday, but those darkest times in hospital, were made bearable & lighter by the fantastic staff in Elephant Ward & will always have some of the fondest memories of Izzie smiling & laughing with them. Donating here will go into Izzies brighter future fund which means Pete & I will have a say how that money gets used. As parents who went through this, we know what has a positive effect & what can make those awful times in hospital just a bit more bearable. This is for all those families going through the worse time of their lives.... x
