The Health Tree Foundation are raising funds to make Grimsby, Scunthorpe and Goole hospitals dementia friendly. Specialist equipment is needed to enhance the experience of dementia patients.

Story

850,000 people in the UK currently have Dementia & this number will rise to over 1 million by 2025!

Most of us have been or will be affected by Dementia in some way during our lifetime. As there is currently no cure, the aim is to maintain their qualify of life the best we can & to keep them as comfortable as we can when in hospital. As a student nurse I’ve witnessed many Dementia patients in hospital and it is heartbreaking to see them so distressed, confused & scared.

That’s why I’m putting myself out of my comfort zone & doing this skydive to raise money for the essential resources and technology needed to ensure our local hospitals can make Dementia patients hospital stay comfortable and hopefully distress free!

I am terrified of heights!!!!!! As a child I wouldn’t even sleep on the top of a bunk bed because it was too high! So what better way to face my fear than a 15,000 feet high skydive & raise money for a great cause in doing so! Doing this skydive I will experience the distress and uncomfort & be as terrified as Dementia patients can be in hospital! Having experienced this I will be able to kind of put myself in their shoes & understand how it feels to be so far out your comfort zone. This will enable me to care for these patients in a much more compassionate way.

It is so so important we make Dementia patients as comfortable as we can in hospital & the new high tec resources we want to buy can assist with that! So PLEASE donate whatever you can, it’s massively appreciated!!
