We use surfing and peer mentoring to transform the lives of young people

Story

I started boxing training in May with the Steve and the kids as a great way to stay active and healthy and to do something fun as a family.  I have come to believe that being active and doing regular exercise that is fun is important, not just for physical health, but for mental well-being as well. I enjoyed the training that much that I (somehow) agreed to take part in the next boxing event as a white collar boxer.  This will involve doing three 2 minute rounds of boxing with another female opponent from another local gym.

I know many of my friends think i'm mad and there are times over the last few weeks that i have been inclined to agree with them! It really is emotional rollercoaster.  There are times when I have wondered why i'm doing it! So to keep me going, keep me focussed and ensure I have a great reason to get through the 3 rounds I decided to raise money for charity as part of this. Lets face it, it's not something you do everyday so i want to make it count.

I'm raising money for the Wave Project who help young people to reduce anxiety and improve confidence through surfing! The Wave Project started in 2010 as a voluntary group funded by the National Health Service in Cornwall. The initial aim was to use volunteers to provide one-to-one surfing lessons for young people with mental health issues as a way of getting them outside, doing physical exercise and feeling more confident about themselves. The first project achieved outstanding results. They now have locations across the South Coast, in Scotland and Wales, there is also a Dorset based Wave Project team.

So, i'd really like to go in that ring knowing that every punch I give and every punch I take goes a little way to help a child or group of kids get a bit of Surf Therapy to help them forget their worries and become a little more confident.
