Story
After taking on challenges throughout our years of friendship (from Tough Mudder's, to Nuclear races, and whitewater rafting), we set our sights on completing something a bit tougher, and wanted to help others along the way.
The idea of climbing kilimanjaro first came about last year (probably after a few drinks) and started as a pipe dream. But as it came into conversation more often, we realised this was a challenge that would really test us.
Why Kilimanjaro? It's the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world (19,341 feet above sea level). Who wouldn't want to say they have climbed it? But whilst this will be another achievement to tick off the list, it's something we won't always have a chance to do as our families get bigger and we get older. We wanted to do it whilst we still had the opportunity.
Once we got started with planning, we realised it would be a great opportunity to fundraise along the way, which is where Make-A-Wish UK came into place. We were in awe of what they do for seriously ill children and their families and were inspired to do something that could give others the chance to have a experience of a lifetime. Especially as travelling to Africa would be a dream come true for us - and a privilege not everyone may have.
Make-A-Wish UK grant magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. Granting their wish provides seriously ill children with hope for the future, strength to cope and resilience to fight their condition. They’re given quality time away from the daily realities of living with their condition and given the chance to make magical memories they can treasure forever – whatever their future may hold. We want to transform the lives of 1,000 children this year by granting their One True Wish!
Look out for our updates as we prepare for the hardest challenge of our lives! #TwoMenAndAMountain
