Story
My London marathon ballot place has been deferred multiple times since 2019 initially due to me being pregnant and then due to Covid but FINALLY I am due to run on 2nd October 2022.
I met Ceri whilst we were both at The University of Birmingham many moons ago and we have kept in touch intermittently since graduating in 2007. Speaking with Ceri over the last 12 months I knew I wanted to to raise money for the charity he has set up ‘It’s Never You’.
In 2021 Ceri’s son, Hugh Menai Davis passed away age 6 years old after being diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma just 11 months previously. It’s Never You was set up by Hughs parents Ceri and Fran in honour of their son, to support other parents psychologically, financially and physically whilst they are going through the journey of parenting a child who has been diagnosed with cancer. As a parent you think ‘it’s never you’. The lack of support Ceri and Fran received both during Hugh’s treatment and following his passing has fuelled their passion to overhaul the support offered to parents who find themselves in a similar situation as they were.
“Parenting a child with cancer is tough, it’s relentless, never ending. It drains you mentally physically and financially. If a parent is not able to function to the best of their ability how can they care for their child who is undergoing the most intense medical treatment they can have”. That’s why Its Never You was set up and already it is supporting parents in so many ways.
I know finances are tight right now, but if you could spare the cost of a takeaway coffee it will make all the difference to this charity, to parents of children on the most difficult of journeys, who are otherwise feeling lost, unsupported and who are struggling.
