Cavendish Cancer Care were there for me and my family during the hardest time in my life.

"It's cancer" are words nobody ever wants to hear. When I heard them in 2020 my life changed forever. I had no idea I had an aggressive form of breast cancer and that it was very progressed at diagnosis.  I felt my world literally crumbling around me.

Through everything, I tried to keep a positive mental attitude, especially for my 2 girls who were only 9 & 11 at the time of my diagnosis. Some days this was incredibly tough, with me having to endure gruelling chemotherapy, four extensive surgeries and a course of radiotherapy.

Then I found Cavendish Cancer Care. They held me up when things felt overwhelming. They gave me back some control by helping me learn about, and implement, changes in my diet and taught me mindfulness and other stress reducing techniques, to try and deal with the worry.

They also helped my daughters to express and process their emotions through art therapy and offered my husband counselling.

The fact they found ways to provide this consistent support to our family during the pandemic, when much other support had ceased to exist, speaks volumes about their commitment and determination. 

I feel privileged to be able to help them to keep providing this support to others facing a cancer diagnosis.

Cavendish Cancer Care is a Sheffield charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for those living with cancer and their loved ones. Last year, they supported over 1,900 people affected by cancer, including carers and children. They offer free-of-charge packages of therapy and support, tailored to each individual's specific needs. But Cavendish only receive enough statutory funding to keep their doors open for about two weeks each year, meaning they rely on the generosity of the public to keep running. Put simply - they need your help.
