In January I’m going to Cape Coast in Ghana for 6 months to work in a community centre which provides education programmes to help at-risk youth build more sustainable livelihoods. As a Team Leader I’ll be leading groups of UK and Ghanaian young people to work together on this community development project.

This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which is funded by the UK Government’s Department for International Development to bring together young people from all backgrounds to fight poverty in some of the world’s poorest communities. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development. ICS only works with communities that have specifically requested their help.

 

I’m hoping to raise £800 for Lattitude, who are one of the respected development agencies that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work.

 

My fundraising efforts consist of a sponsored silence and putting on a boardgame party, both of which it would be great to have your support for...

 

On New Year’s Eve I’m going to do a 12 hour sponsored silence from midday to midnight. I will be supervised in shifts by my friends who will make sure I remain muted until the clock strikes midnight, when I will emerge into the new year ready for whatever 2014 throws at me, and desperate to talk. 12 hours of no chat will be hard for me at the best of times, let alone on New Year’s Eve, when I’ll be surrounded by mates and booze. Come on, that is actually pretty hard... Sponsor me?

 

I’m also organising a Boardgame Bash, which is a new kind of daytime party centred around boardgame playing en masse at high speed in a pub setting. This will take place on Sunday 15 December at the Reliance, on Old Street, London. This is an open event so you’re all invited! Check out the Facebook event page for more info!
