Story

RFA LARGS BAY is a ship of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary transporting urgent aid and supplies to the earthquake damaged nation of Haiti.

Race to Haiti - Trans Atlantic Exercise!!!

Instead of putting their feet up on the journey out, the crew and embarked forces onboard RFA Largs Bay raced the ship across the Atlantic Ocean by rowing, running and cycling in the gym raising money for the DEC Haiti Appeal. After 2 weeks and 4283 nautical miles of Ocean passage they finally made it to Haiti beating the ship with time to spare. The money raising is going well but please don't stop giving. They are doing some excellent work out there and are already trying to think up the next challenge for the trip back!

On arrival the ship docked and emptied all the supplies from the hold. This is being distributed accross Haiti as needed. The ship is now in Port au Prince loading dry food cargo for trans shipment to various small ports.

DFID (department for International Development)

One month on the international aid effort has shifted from search and rescue activity to meeting the basic needs of the survivors in the immediate term and its long-term rehabilitation. Following life-saving work by the UK search and rescue (SAR) teams - which reached Haiti 48 hours after the quake - DFID is now focused on co-ordinating a complex relief effort to limit delays and anxiety among Haitians. You can read more about DFID and it's work in Haiti following the link below.
