One of the most inhospitable places on the planet you say?  With potential scorpions, sand snakes and goodness knows what else?  Count me in apparently!

I turn 40 next year, and as someone who’s not particularly sporty or athletic (having once shaved off all my hair for charity to avoid running a marathon) I already know that trekking over 60km across the Moroccan Sahara and Atlas Mountains is going to be pretty challenging for me.  The terrain will be a mixture of hard, flat sundried plains, dried up ancient riverbeds, wide sandy dune fields and hard rocky outcrops.  The temperatures will pose a specific challenge too, so I’ve got a year to get fit, healthy and determined….and hopefully raise a whole tonne of cash along the way in aid of such a worthy cause.

But I’m not just doing that…

Together with 4 friends, I will be spending the next year continually fundraising with events galore to raise as much money as possible.  I’ve already paid my deposit for the trip, so this is all about raising at least £2700 (and ideally exceeding and smashing that target) to get those much-needed funds to one of the most worthy causes around. 

This means that I will be going on lots of long hikes to help me train (a great excuse to visit lots of National Trust places too obvs!), running quizzes, musical events and a whole host of other fundraising ideas across the year to encourage you to put those generous hands in those big pockets!  Seriously though, I know times are tough, so absolutely anything you can part with will be absolutely fantastic, and will help them continue to provide support to those who need it most.
