Story
I’m taking on the Glasgow Kiltwalk Mighty Stride (23 miles!) with a couple of friends at the end of April to raise funds for the Scout Group I’m proud to volunteer with as Group Lead Volunteer.
Hiking and embracing the outdoors is what we’re all about in Scouting so doing the Kiltwalk seemed like a fitting challenge - and a challenge it certainly will be, as it’s been many years since I’ve had the time or fitness to walk anything near 23 miles!
I’ve been involved with 1st North Berwick Scout Group for over 10 years and in that time I’ve seen just how much Scouting helps young people build confidence, make lasting friendships and learn valuable skills for life. Scouting has also been hugely beneficial for me personally, helping me build my skills and confidence while being part of a brilliant team and making some great friends.
We’re very lucky to have our own meeting place, which is cherished by the wider community as much as by our Scouts, but the building is over 100 years old and is in real need of renovation. We’re planning to improve accessibility inside and out, upgrade the grounds, enhance energy efficiency and generally give our HQ the spruce-up it deserves so it can continue serving Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and our local community for many more years to come.
This is a big project. The full programme of improvements will cost hundreds of thousands of pounds, and while we’re applying for grants and other funding, community fundraising like this is vital to help make it happen.
By sponsoring me for this 23-mile challenge, you’ll be helping us create a more welcoming, sustainable and accessible space for current Scouts and future generations.
Every donation, no matter the size, will make a real difference. So while I battle the blisters and stride on through the inevitable April showers, I would very much appreciate your support!
