Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinaemia (WM) is an incurable and rare form of blood cancer. My wonderful step dad Bob was diagnosed with this 8 years ago. Any cancer diagnosis is, understandably, terrifying and there are phases that one goes through when coming to terms with it and learning to live with their condition. Being such a rare type of cancer there is limited information and research about this condition but there is this fantastic little charity called WMUK who were a fantastic support to Bob. 

WMUK are a partnership of WM doctors and patients in the UK working together to improve the treatment and care of people with WM. They focus on providing: accurate diagnosis and high-quality care, personalised information and support, research that matters to patients and access to new and better treatments.

There is an incredible network of doctors and patients supporting each other through their WM journey which has created such a supportive and caring WM community.

The charity is only small by comparison to some of the major cancer charities because it only focuses on this type of cancer. This is another reason why I am taking on this personal challenge to help raise them some much needed funds so they can grow and support more patients, doctors and research.

So… what are we doing?

A group of patients, doctors and friends and family are cycling from University College London to University Hospitals Pitie Saltpetriere in Paris which are 400 miles apart! The event takes place over the course of 3 days starting 25th August. 

This is by far the BIGGEST challenge I have ever taken on and I can’t wait to do it but most importantly I can’t wait to raise such valuable funds for WMUK. So open up those pockets and dig deep… your donations will keep my motivation up and, of course, raise the much needed funds for WMUK!
