Story
I am the
domestic abuse support worker for Victim Support in Bolton. Every day I see the
affects domestic abuse can have on victims and witnesses and i want to raise funds and awareness of such a prevalent crime.
''Victim Support is here to help anyone affected by crime, not only victims and witnesses, but their friends, family and any other people involved. Because we’re an independent charity, you can talk to us whether or not you reported the crime to the police. If you want, we can support you without the involvement of the criminal justice system, and we won’t contact them about you unless we feel someone is at risk. We are here just to support you.''
On average 2 women a week are killed by a current or ex-partner and 1in 4 women and 1 in 6 men are suffering from domestic abuse in the UK right now.
Domestic abuse can have devastating consequences and can affect all aspects of a victim’s life such as financially, emotionally, housing can be affected, children are affected even if they do not witness the abuse, and many more aspects of a person’s life.
We work with people to make sure they are safe and receive the practical and emotional support they may need regardless of their background, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or religion.
Victim Support are a national charity and are grateful for all the support and funds donated. A small amount can go a long way whether it is to provide food vouchers for a family or help with security items all of these things can go a long way in helping somebody move forward to a safer and happier life.
It if for this reason that i am going to be completing a skydive on the 2nd August 2014 to raise money to help Victim Support in Greater Manchester deliver services to those affected by domestic abuse.
