In 2015, my wife Anna broke her back when she was hit by a cyclist. She was in a wheelchair for 3 months and then on crutches for another 2 months. Fortunately, she regained full mobility, but others who we met whilst she was on the spinal and neurology ward were not so fortunate. Although Anna's injury still affects day to day life to some degree, it made us realise how lucky we are to be able to run and walk and do all the other daily tasks that we take for granted.

Every four hours someone in the UK is permanently paralysed. Aspire is a national charity that provides practical help to people who have been paralysed by Spinal Cord Injury. A spinal cord injury can happen to anyone at any time, and no one is prepared for how it will change their life. Aspire exists because there is currently no cure. This support allows people with spinal injury to lead fulfilled and independent lives in their homes, with their families, in their workplace and in leisure time.
