Story
For the final part of my ‘40 at 40’ fundraising year, I signed up to take part in the Great North Run 2022. The run takes place in Newcastle and with 60,000 participants, it’s the world’s biggest half marathon!
Thanks to everyone who has donated so far, to each of the charities. I am so grateful for all the support and donations. To those anonymous donors who I have been unable to thank personally, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
In 2019, I set myself the target of completing a marathon before I was 40 years old. I trained for the 2020 Manchester Marathon, but when it got cancelled a few months before my birthday, I set myself a new goal - to run a 40 mile ultra marathon at 40.
On 10 October 2021, I finished the rescheduled Manchester Marathon in 3h36m36s, which was the first step towards my goal.
On 13 November 2021, I took part in the Warrington Way 40 mile trail ultra marathon and completed the course in 7hrs 21mins!
On Sunday 11 September I took part in the final event in my year of fundraising, when I completed the Great North Run in 1h32m28s.
At the start of my fundraising, I chose 4 charities which are all important to me and my family. I have written a bit about each one - please click 'Laurie' in each of the 'Team Members' links below.
If you would like to donate to any of the charities, you can choose one, or split the donation between them all by following the individual links. Hopefully we will achieve fairly equally funding for each of the four charities.
Many thanks!
