The London Marathon - #TeamBeacon This is the official fundraising page for #TeamBeacon runners taking part in the London Marathon on Sunday October 2nd, 2022

Story

After many years of running, I have finally decided to take the plunge and book my first marathon this October 2nd in London.

I am fundraising for the fantastic, Brighton-based HIV charity The Sussex Beacon and would very much appreciate your support. I hope to reach £2000 before the race so if you could get your donations in by then that would be wonderful!

As a gay man myself, HIV/AIDS is something that has always felt close to home, so I am very glad to finally be doing something that might make a difference for someone living with the condition.

Founded in 1992 as a hospice to care for people with HIV/AIDS, today The Sussex Beacon supports people living with HIV. Changes in medication and disease management now mean that many people do not find their positive status an issue, however, for some, usually the most vulnerable, living with HIV is still a constant challenge. They may have been diagnosed late or before anti-retroviral treatments were widely available. They may have co-existing physical conditions, such as cancer, dementia, or diabetes. They may also have mental health conditions or needs relating to social isolation and stigmatisation that a positive diagnosis can bring.

A special thank you to the Brighton and Hove Frontrunners, my LGBTQIA+ running group, who I know will provide invaluable support to me as I prepare for this.

Thanks for reading and please do share this page and/or follow me on Strava and other social media to see how I am getting on.
