Cavernoma Alliance UK (CAUK) supports people affected by cavernoma. A cavernoma is a common but often unheard of condition caused by a cluster of abnormal blood vessels in the brain or spine. Our mission is to improve the quality of life for those affected through education, support and research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the weekend of 27th and 28th May I am hoping to walk 100km (63 miles) for Cavernoma Alliance UK , a very small charity set up to support and help those with this rare disease. A cavernoma is a cluster of abnormal blood vessels in the brain with a 'raspberry'-like appearance. Often, a person can have one and never know it, but on rare occasions they bleed, causing strokes or seizures.  Unfortunately, this is what happened to Amy, daughter of friends Rebecca and Paul, at the age of 24.

Thankfully, two years on, Amy has had her cavernoma removed and so far she's doing really well.  She is still struggling to find words, which will take some time to return, and we're all hoping she'll be able to return to work as a teacher soon.

It's been a very traumatic time for all concerned so I really wanted to join my dear walking buddy, Rebecca, and raise much needed funds for Cavernoma Alliance UK, who are a wonderful support for the Cavernoma community.

Originally I signed up to walk a 'mere' marathon (44km) but have decided to up the ante and join Rebecca, Ruth and James (aka Gordy) in an attempt to complete the full 100km -  the worst that can happen is I don't manage to complete it but I'm certainly going to give it a very good go!

I'd be very grateful if you could support me for this incredibly important charity.

With very many thanks in advance.
