So here it is....on 23rd February I will start climbing Kilimanjaro with 9 celebrities as part of our Red Nose Day Challenge 2019 for Comic Relief. The documentary of which 'Kilimanjaro: The Return' will air on BBC ahead of this year's of Red Nose Day 2019 on 15th March.
Its a 8 day climb - 6 days up and 2 days down. Climbing and camping on the mountain. Yes me...who up until around 5 weeks ago when I started training didn't have a single bit of proper outdoor clothing. Now I am the owner of walking boots, a proper rucksack and a she-wee!!!
As well to my lack of outdoor gear, I have no survival skills whatsoever and this will actually be my first ever proper experience of camping outside EVER - which in itself will be as much of a challenge (if not more) than the mountain!
To be clear, I did have the option to stay on the ground in a nice hotel, watching the rushes in a warm, dry edit suite. But instead, I opted to go that extra mile and climb with the celebrities. Figured I couldn't quite appreciate what they were doing for Comic Relief unless I was doing it myself.
Adding to the challenge of ensuring all 9 celebrities make it to the top (and back again), I will also be producing the live links to the various media outlets so that your social media feeds, newspapers and TV's are awash with our trek - all whilst trying to deal with the effects of high/extreme altitude.
I have only worked for Comic Relief for 4 months now but in that short time I have seen first and how the money they raise helps so many people.
This is my first time on Just Giving so if you can give anything big or small I can vouch personally that this will good to great use and will certainly give me that determination to make it to the top when the doubts creep in.
Thanks for your time and see you on the other side!
