My name is Lizzie Herbert and I am excited to say I have been accepted into a overseas placement with the charity VSO. VSO is a organisation that encourages support to third world countries. I personally will be doing a ICS (Internatinal Citerzen Service) program. ICS works with communities that  are most in need  their help. It also aims to inspire the youth of the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

In February for 12 weeks I will be working in a community in Rajistan India. 

While I am there I will be living with my counterpartner, a local to that area. I shall be living with there family, and joining in with there traditions and day to day life. This is a huge once in a lifetime experience to really feel culturally what life is like there and how much I take for granted. My main role while I am there is to be doing action research, peer education and raising awareness working with the locals to bring much needed resources to ther community. 

The first part of my placement to be able to go away with VSO  is the challenge of fundraiseing £900. VSO is a 90% government funded charity so this will not cover my flight and accommodation, but it will go into the charity to be used on enabling people in the future to be able to do such projects. I will be selling bits , making crafts and much much more over the next few weeks trying to reach my fundraising goal, so please look out for these events, -and I am always looking for more ideas too.
