Story
Lizzie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while pregnant with Daisy.
Type 1 diabetes is an auto-immune disease where the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. Type 1 diabetes is a lifelong condition requiring daily management. Because the body makes little to no insulin, individuals must take daily insulin either through multiple daily injections or an insulin pump.
The Brookes family is taking on 31 Miles in August 2026 for Diabetes UK, the leading charitable funder of diabetes research in the UK. They provide support, information, and advocacy for the millions of people living with or at risk of diabetes. Their ultimate goal is to prevent the condition, improve care, and fund scientific breakthroughs.Every little bit helps. Thank you for your support.
We are doing this together as a family to introduce Charlie to the concept of charity, to help him start to learn a bit about diabetes, and staying active as a family over the summer 💙🧡
