Lotti runs a marathon with Mazi

Marathon - Athens (Mazí) · 10 April 2021 ·
On 10th April 2021 I'm running 42km from Marathon to Athens, the original and mountainous marathon route, to raise money for Mazí Housing Project. The last time I ran consistently was in 2016 when I trained for a half marathon and used it as such a successful procrastination tool during exam season that I injured my knees. This time we started from nothing. In our first week we were running less than 2km and the thought of 5 seemed impossible! We've now made it to 10km and we have three months to go to quadruple our distance. Let's hope my knees can take 3.5 times more kilometres than they did in 2016 when they maxed out at 12km!
Mazí Housing Project is one of the only providers of housing in Athens for single young displaced men. It is a programme of accommodation, material and social support, providing safety and a stepping stone that gives residents the time, space and opportunity to move on to the next chapter in their lives.
Mazí provides financial support to each resident throughout the project (if they don't or cannot access state or UN support). Each resident receives 10 euros each week, this is a humble amount, but it provides some financial freedom to go to local markets and the dignity of participating in everyday, normal economic life in Greece: whether this means buying a cup of coffee of saving money for the future.
