It's winter. We're all in lockdown. But, while the snow falls and the frosts last longer than the days, we can start to look forward to the green shoots of spring, the gentle warmth of the sun and the open blue skies...

At Mazí HQ we have been looking ahead towards the end of this year's housing project and beyond.

On the 15th May the Mazí team will be standing in Marathon in the thick heat of an Aegean afternoon, looking nervously out along the road to Athens. "It is perhaps the most difficult major marathon race", Wikipedia tells us, "the course is uphill from the 10km to the 31km mark  the toughest uphill climb of any major marathon".

Mazí provides financial support to each resident throughout the project (if they cannot access state or UN support). Each resident receives 10 euros each week, this is a humble amount, but it provides some financial freedom to go to local markets and the dignity of participating in everyday, normal economic life in Greece: whether this means buying a cup of coffee, getting a haircut or saving money for the future.

This means it is one of the most important parts of our budget. It is also one of the hardest to fundraise for, since it cannot be invoiced and justified to funders...which is why we are reaching out to friends and supporters of Mazí to help us fill this gap.
