Story

Recently, I have discovered a passion for boxing with my personal trainer. After a couple of sessions and chatting with my close friends about how much I enjoy it and its benefits on my fitness and mental health, an idea sparked that I should throw myself outside of my comfort zone and sign up for a UWCB charity event.

Following this idea, I've decided to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in honour of my good friend Ally Betts.

My friendship with Ally was ignited when she attended my first-ever pop-up restaurant dinner at Alchemilla in Nottingham in 2018. She admitted she was a huge MasterChef fan after the meal and we got chatting, it wasn't long before she suggested that I should join her and her friends for some drinks after service, and of course I said yes!
When I moved to Nottingham, I didn't have many friends, and she welcomed me with both arms. Before we knew it, we were best buds. She was my biggest supporter of my business and truly believed in me. Everything she did, including the way she handled stressful situations and hurdles has inspired me to this day.

In September 2022, we lost Ally to metastatic breast cancer at the age of 31. She was diagnosed at 28 whilst breastfeeding her son when he was just a few months old.
She lived her last three years, during a pandemic, like she did the rest; with humour, humility and compassion, always putting her son and husband first.

She was a truly incredible person and lived a remarkable and inspiring life. Ally not only spent her time caring for others as a doctor but gave so much support and love to others when they needed it most, whilst having a vibrant social and family life.

Ally did so much for others, and now it's my turn to try to continue her incredible legacy.
